Who We Are

Hanger Law is a full service law firm founded in the greater Hampton Roads area.

Hanger Law is founded on the core principle of relationship.  Family. Friends. Colleagues. Clients.  In everything we do, we strive to create and develop lasting relationships that impact people’s lives for the better.  For our clients, this commitment to relationship means we have context to guide you through the legal complexities of life both now and in the future.   For our attorneys and staff, this commitment means we place a high value on camaraderie and a fun work environment because when people enjoy coming to work, it ultimately translates to a better experience and better service for our clients.

At Hanger Law, our clients’ experience is of critical importance.  When we first meet our clients, they are often dealing with a major life event.   Whether that is buying a first home, going through a short sale, planning for major family events, or dealing with litigation, these situations are daunting and new for most people.  Our goal is to simplify things for our clients, take away the factor of the “unknown,” and make the process as smooth as possible.

Unlike most attorneys, Hunter Hanger entered the legal field to be around people. His primary motivator is to see clients empowered through understanding, and protected by an assertive legal advocate.

Prior to practicing law, he worked in DC on Capitol Hill and in Real Estate in Los Angeles, CA.  A natural activator, Hunter works tirelessly to get transactions moved to closing in a timely and exact manner.

Entering Real Estate Law during a significant market downturn, Hunter cut his teeth negotiating short sale deficiencies against Big Banks. The key to success requires skilled navigation of large bureaucracies and mastery of the service manuals for Freddie Mae, Fannie Mac, HUD, VA, and various other protocols of private investors. As government regulation of the mortgage industry continues to expand through laws like the Dodd-Frank Act, Hunter appreciates the power of application of these reforms to client problems.

Hunter is committed to ensuring Hanger Law has the best people and the best processes to ensure his clients are brought through complex transactions with ease and confidence.  He is a self-admitted Zillow addict and loves to walk clients from start to finish on their real estate transactions.

Hunter and his wife, Kara live with their three children in Croatan. He serves as an elder at CrossCurrent Church and in his free time, enjoys surfing, running, and studying history.

Mark L. Stevenson is a skilled attorney and short-sale negotiator barred in Virginia , North Carolina, and Michigan. Currently, his practice focuses on Real Estate and Estate Planning matters.

Prior to joining Hanger Law, he spent three years processing and successfully negotiating short sales in some of the hardest hit regions of Michigan, including Flint and metro Detroit. Mark prides himself on facilitating deals with multiple parties to achieve positive results for clients.

A local, Mark graduated from Tallwood High School and went on to get a B.S. in Chemistry at Old Dominion University, graduating cum laude, and a J.D. from Regent Law.

Beyond loss mitigation, Mark brings a wealth of experience in family law, including issues such as divorces, post-divorce matters dealing with custody, child support, and parenting time, and also adoptions. Mark also has significant exposure to bankruptcy issues. He understands how bankruptcy interrelates with the short sale process and family law.

Lastly, Mark has considerable experience with probate law as a former court-appointed attorney for Oakland County, MI. He helped legally incapacitated clients that were having difficulties managing their own affairs. He’s currently working on his certification to do the same in Virginia.

Mark is a member of the Newport News Bar Association, participates in a local BNI Chapter, and is a member of Coastal Community Church in Yorktown.
